Trailer Trash (Best. Trailer. Ever. Edition)

Words cannot describe this. Just… just watch it.

I do not know much about where The Last Godfather has come from. All I know is that this looks like the broadest comedy of all time. I have seen some broad comedies, mind you. I’ve sat through an entire episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia which was devoted to a single poop joke. The Last Godfather appears to consist entirely of Italian mafia stereotypes getting clubbed in the head by kooky Asian Hyung-rae Shim.

But seriously, folks. Every joke in this trailer appears to be the MOST OBVIOUS JOKE POSSIBLE. At one point, the film cuts from a farting Hyung-rae Shim to an explosion. (You see, gas+fire=BOOM. Comedy!) Also, an entire sequence seems to be devoted to Shim dropping a gun and it accidently firing a shot. Ta-da!

I suppose a case could be made that The Last Godfather is attempting to go ultra-old-school on us, but yikes. Even the tagline (“He will take every measure to crack you up!”) seems like it’s out of the ’30s. That said, I can’t think of a trailer that’s fascinated me more in recent memory. I desperately want to see The Last Godfather, if only because I want to decipher the thought process behind it. Also, Harvey Keitel is in this. Remember Mean Streets? That’s a good film, no?

For your reading pleasure, here’s the IMDb the biography of Hyung-rae Shim. Now this is a fascinating read.
Producer and director Shim is to this day one of the most popular comedians on Korean television. Since embarking in the movie industry, he has been involved in the output of nearly 100 movie productions, whether as screen writer, developer, director, actor, producer or executive producer. Though still relatively unknown in the United States, Hyung-Rae Shim has been selected by Asia Week magazine as one of Asia's most influential leaders in computer technology of the 21st century. For the advances he has made in science fiction filmmaking, the government of Korea recognized Shim as one of the most vital Korean thinkers of our time.
Watch the trailer again and try to comprehend this. Ladies and gentlemen, meet one of the most vital Korean thinkers of our time! Now, watch him fart.
