I’ll begin by apologizing for the lack of content in the past week or so. My school year is nearly coming to an end, which means much of my time has been spent writing papers and doing what needs to be done in the world of academics. That said, we are reaching the point where CinemaSlants can once again become one of my top priorities. With the approaching summer, I have decided to make a few announcements as to what you can expect from me in the coming months.
--Since I started this blog, I have written an occasional feature entitled “Trailer Trash,” in which a choose a recent, notable trailer and examine it—for better or for worse. Starting this coming Friday, I have decided to make “Trailer Trash” a weekly feature (a la “Disc of the Week”) in which I examine a handful of previews that I watched in the previous week. So stay tuned for that.
--I have chosen to do away with “My Favorite Movies” altogether, as a) I haven’t really updated it all that much, and b) I don’t write on my favorite movies unless I feel I have something new to say about them besides “They’re great!” On top of that, I am also removing the TITLE of “I’ve Finally Seen It!” and I’ll merely be writing about films I watch when I feel like there is something to say. I’ll still be writing about older movies, but not under the “I’ve Finally Seen It!” banner.
--On that note, I’ve long been working on a “Greatest Movies of All Time” post on Casablanca, but it has yet to entirely come together. Look for that in the coming weeks. Future candidates for the “Greatest Movies of All Time” feature are Gone With the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, The Wizard of Oz and so on. I’ll look to make this more prominent. On the flip side, I will also write more “Adventures in Atrocity” posts on such prestigious fare as Troll 2, Birdemic, Manos: The Hands of Fate, and perhaps a journey into the work of Ed Wood.
--Last summer, I wrote a handful of posts as part of a “Summer of Scorsese” feature. While this never really went anywhere, can’t hurt to try it again. This year, however, I will look at the work of the director who is perhaps most responsible for the Hollywood landscape we live in today. I’ll look to finish my Freaks and Geeks posts first (only a couple left), but when that’s all said and done look for CinemaSlants to begin “The Summer of Spielberg,” where I explore the oeuvre of the one and only—wait for it—Steven Spielberg.
--Of course, I’ll continue reviewing the new movies of 2011. There are a lot of exciting/intriguing films coming out in the summer months. Will J.J. Abrams be able to make a modern E.T. with Super 8? Will Transformers 3 not be a total abomination? What is The Tree of Life? Will the Harry Potter series come to a satisfying end? I’ll look to answer all of these questions… and more!
--Also: prepare for the return of director profiles! Not sure who’s next, but I desperately want to do another one. Also, I’ll look to write more column-y posts, if that makes any sense.
--In the coming weeks I’ll also be looking to tweak the design/layout of CinemaSlants altogether. When the changes come, let me know what you think.

Is the Cinema Slants podcast still in the works?
ReplyDeleteI dearly hope so. The way this summer is looking, I might be able to make that happen.
